MOREHEAD, Ky. — For the second time this season, Morehead State freshman forward Dani Wilson has claimed the honor of Ohio Valley Conference soccer Co-Offensive Player of the Week.
“Her individual effort to get the penality kick on Sunday was outstanding,” said Head Coad Warren Lipka. “She has a motor in her and doesn’t like to lose.”
Earlier in the season on Sept. 1, Wilson claimed her first Offensive Player of the Week for her performances against Bowling Green and Xavier.
Wilson played a role in each of the three goals scored in the Eagles’ back-to-back road wins against SIU Edwardsville and Eastern Illinois. It didn’t take long for her to make an impact as Wilson assisted fellow freshman forward Abby Timm in the opening 17 seconds of the SIUE match, putting the Eagles up on the defending OVC tournament champions. The tandem struck again in the second half. Timm broke free from the defender, reeling in a lead pass from Wilson, and beat the keeper. Wilson’s helper was her league-leading fifth.
The play between Timm and Wilson has been a difference maker for the Eagles in the last few weeks, and according to Wilson, her and Timm know how to comliment each other.
“She knows when to run. I know when to play the ball to her, and vice versa. We’re on the same page right now, and it’s going to help us as the season continues,” said Wilson.
The weekend began with a Wilson assist and ended on a Wilson goal in dramatic fashion. MSU and EIU stayed gridlocked in a 0-0 tie until the second overtime period when Wilson was fouled in the goalkeeper’s box, drawing a penalty kick. She remained perfect on the season in penalty kicks, making her 4-for-4, and giving the Eagles the 1-0 victory.
With five matches remaining on the schedule Wilson ranks first in the OVC in assists, ranks tied for second in points with teammate Timm at 17, and fifth in goals with six.
