RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team will hold its first official preseason practice on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. on the main floor of McBrayer Arena.
NCAA rules now allow a team to begin official preseason practice six weeks prior to the team’s first game. EKU opens the regular season at home versus Coppin State on Friday, November 13.
Thursday also marks the first official preseason practice for new head coach Dan McHale, who came to Richmond in April following two seasons as an assistant coach under Richard Pitino at Minnesota.
McHale, a former student manager at Kentucky (1997-2001) and staff assistant at Louisville (2001-03), takes over an Eastern team that went 21-12 and reached the quarterfinals of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament last season.
EKU returns two starters from last year’s squad in senior guard Ja’Mill Powell (8.2 points-per-game) and junior guard Isaac McGlone (5.5 points-per-game, 86 assists).
