MOREHEAD, Ky. — Morehead State sophomore quarterback Austin Gahafer and junior linebacker Luke Keller have earned Pioneer Football League awards.
Gahafer was named co-Offensive Player of the Week by the league office and was also tabbed PFL Offensive Player of the Week by College Sports Madness. Keller earned the official Defensive Player of the Week accolade. Morehead State defeated Pikeville (Ky.) 49-36 at Jayne Stadium Saturday night.
Gahafer, a native of Louisville, threw a career-high five touchdown passes, completing 30-of-43 for 277 yards. He also rushed for a team-best 44 yards on nine carries. Gahafer completed passes to 10 different receivers and connected with four separate players on touchdown tosses. In the first two games, he has six touchdowns, no interceptions and has not been sacked.
A Lucasville, Ohio, product, Keller tallied a career and team-high 11 total tackles, including two tackles for loss and a sack. He forced two Pikeville fumbles and also had a pass break-up.
Morehead State travels to Eastern Kentucky Saturday. Kickoff at Roy Kidd Stadium is set for 6 p.m. ET.
