Eastern Kentucky University routs Valparaiso in season opener.
Four Eastern Kentucky running backs scored touchdowns in the Colonels rout of Valparaiso 52-10 in the season opener for both teams on Thursday night at Roy Kidd Stadium. EKU’s rush defense was dominant all night as they only allowed 38 yards in 29 attempts. That, added to the outstanding play by Senior CB Stanley Absanon, allowed EKU to snatch the lead early and never look back when the score was 14 – 0 at the end of the 1st quarter.
Stanley Absanon had 3 Punt Returns for 46 yards, 2 Kickoff Returns for 80 yards and 1 Interception that he ran for 56 yards, untouched, for a touchdown!
Seven Colonels scored in all. Kentayvus Hopkins led Eastern Kentucky in rushing with 60 yards on seven carries and capped the scoring with a 1-yard run to start the fourth quarter. Arien Beasley, Adam Lane and Ethan Thomas also scored rushing touchdowns. Former Cat Dy’Shawn Mobley gained 12 yards on six carries but didn’t score.
