MOREHEAD, Ky. – Casey Carlo, who helped Drake claim a Pioneer Football League Co-Championship in 2011, has joined the Morehead State coaching staff. Carlo will assist with linebackers.
“I have some familiarity with the staff here,” Carlo said. “Drake’s current head coach, Rick Fox, and (MSU Head Coach) Rob Tenyer coached together at Centre (Ky.), and I coached alongside (MSU Assistant Coach) Rod West a few years ago. Rod called me when this position opened up, and it was appealing to me.”
Carlo most recently served as co-defensive coordinator at Northeastern State (Okla.). He was the defensive line coach at Drake from 2010-11.
“Casey understands the high level of players in this conference,” Tenyer said. “Just in a short time, he has really gelled with our players, and I am excited to have him on staff.”
Carlo was the defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator at Texas A&M-Commerce in 2012, working alongside West. Carlo’s unit doubled its sack total from the previous season.
He served on the staff at Upper Iowa University from 2005-08 and spent one season at Southwest Minnesota State in 2009.
Carlo entered the coaching ranks as the defensive coordinator at Northern University High School in Cedar Falls, Iowa from 1996-99. He also served two years at Urbandale (Iowa) High School.
Carlo played collegiately at Northern Iowa University, where he helped the Panthers capture Gateway Conference titles. He earned his bachelor’s degree in general studies with a minor in coaching in 1996. Following graduation, Carlo was an assistant strength and conditioning coach for three years at his alma mater
“It’s football season, I am excited,” Carlo added. “As a coach, you can do a lot of things off the field, but once we put the pads on, you really see who can play. We have a good group of linebackers, and I am eager to help us succeed.”
