PIKEVILLE, Ky. – After finishing third in the NAIA in punt-return yards per attempt at 16.1 in 2013, University of Pikeville wide receiver Nu’Keese Richardson signed a NFL free-agent contract on Sunday with the Indianapolis Colts.
Richardson, a native of Pahokee, Fla., who played one season with the Bears recorded 39 receptions for 587 yards and three touchdowns in 10 games. He also returned eight kickoffs for 121 yards and 18 punts for 290 yards and three touchdowns.
His two punt returns he took to the house in a 35-24 win over Bethel (Tenn.) made the NAIA take notice, handing him its special teams national player of the week award, an honor he also received twice on a conference level from the Mid-South.
Prior to his time at UPIKE, Richardson played in nine games for the University of Tennessee in 2009, catching eight passes for 102 yards and a touchdown. He added 13 kickoff returns for 292 yards and six punt returns for 66.
Terms of the contract were not released. The Colts made two other moves during the day, waiving injured cornerback Brandon Burton and wide receiver Greg Moore.
