PIKEVILLE, Ky. – After posting its best record in eight years at 7-4 last season, the University of Pikeville football team was picked to finish fourth in the Mid-South Conference East Division in a poll of the league’s coaches, conference officials announced on Friday.

Cumberlands, coming off a trip to the NAIA National Championship Game, is the preseason favorite in the East, while Faulkner (Ala.) and Reinhardt (Ga.) tied as the frontrunners in the West.

Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.

The Bears, who finished 3-3 in league games in 2013, picked up 20 points in the poll, trailing eight points behind Lindsey Wilson in third. Georgetown was picked to finish as the runner-up with 32 voting points.

Of the seven available first-place nods in the East, Cumberlands claimed four, Georgetown took two and Lindsey Wilson secured the final vote.

UPIKE opens the 2014 season at 6:30 p.m. ET on Aug. 28 at Bluefield (Va.), followed by a trip to Morehead State on Sept. 6. The Bears host their home opener at 1:30 p.m. ET on Sept. 13 against Edward Waters (Fla.).
