PIKEVILLE, Ky. – First-year University of Pikeville men’s soccer coach Adam Johnson released his team’s 2014 schedule on Wednesday. The Bears are set to open up the season on Aug. 23 at Berea, while the home opener is on Sept. 4 against Salem International (W. Va.) at the Bob Amos Soccer Complex.

UPIKE will play 17 regular-season games, including six at home. Details about the Mid-South Conference Championship have not been announced, but will take place in early November with the first round to be played at campus sites.

After the opener at Berea, the Bears travel to the 2014 Freed-Hardeman Lions Cup where they will play the host Lions on Aug. 29 and another opponent yet to be announced the next day.

Conference play begins at home on Sept. 13 against St. Catharine, followed by a trip to Williamsburg, Ky., on Sept. 27 to face Cumberlands. The regular-season finale is scheduled for Nov. 1 against Georgetown at the Bob Amos Complex. UPIKE closed its 2013 season with an overtime win against the Tigers in Georgetown.

Johnson will have plenty to replace after the departure of All-MSC selections Cooper Gaypia and Dean Johnson. That duo accounted for 24 of the Bears’ 35 goals last season, but junior Colin Conaway (2 goals, 2 assists) and senior goalkeeper Alfredo Piedra (66 saves, 10 starts) are back in the mix.
