BELMONT PULLS AWAY FROM EKU IN SECOND HALF FOR 76-59 VICTORY

EKU

RICHMOND, Ky. – A hot shooting performance from behind the arch led visiting Belmont to a 76-59 victory over the Eastern Kentucky University women’s basketball team in McBrayer Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Michaela Hunter led EKU (8-13, 3-8 OVC) with 22 points in the losing effort. She also finished with eight rebounds and two assists.

Belmont (9-15, 6-5 OVC) led for 38 of the game’s 40 minutes. EKU kept it close for much of the first half, but a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Adrienne Tarrence sent Belmont into the locker room at halftime up by nine, 36-27, and spurred the Bruins to a dominant second half performance.

In the second half the Bruins outscored EKU, 40-32. Belmont’s largest lead came on a free throw by Katie Carroll, making it 71-52 with 2:03 to play.

The Bruins’ win was partially accredited to their 26-of-59 (44 percent) field goal shooting versus Eastern Kentucky’s 22-of-64 (34 percent) shooting performance. Behind the arch Belmont went 5-of-12 in the second half while the Colonels shot just 2-of-12.

Belmont edged EKU in rebounding, 43-34.

The Bruins had four players in double figures. Carrol, Jordyn Luffman-Hartsfield, Sierra Jones and Sally McCabe all contributed ten points or more.

EKU will look to get back on track next Saturday versus Tennessee State in Nashville. Tip is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET.
