PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Allan Holland Jr., entering his second season as head coach of the University of Pikeville football team, announced the signing of 42 student-athletes to his first recruiting class during a national signing day ceremony on Wednesday.
Seven of the new additions are mid-year signees already enrolled in school, while 35 are high-school signees. Thirty of the student-athletes are from Kentucky, six are from Ohio, three are Georgia natives and one each are arriving from California and Florida.
UPIKE is coming off a 5-6 season in 2014 with a 4-2 mark in the Mid-South Conference East Division, good for a third-place finish in the league standings.
This group of signees is set to join as many as 15 returning starters from this past season as Holland Jr., builds towards his goal of competing for MSC and NAIA Championships.
“We’re taking the strides to win a conference championship here at UPIKE and we want this to be the first group of signees to help take us there,” said Holland Jr. “Let’s be like what men’s basketball and women’s bowling have done here before and set the bar high.
“We’re going to continue to get better as a team and as student-athletes. We have a lot of work ahead of us, but it all starts now with preparation between now and next fall.”
