Team Records, Game Notables and Series Information
– WKU drops to 14-6 overall and 7-1 in Conference USA, while LA Tech improves to 16-5 on the year and 7-1 in conference action.
– The loss snapped WKU’s nine-game winning streak, its longest since winning 11-straight at the end of the 2007-08 season.
– WKU suffered its first loss in conference play after winning its first seven games as a member of Conference USA, which was tied for the sixth-best start to a conference season in program history and best since finishing 14-0 in Ohio Valley Conference play in 1969-70.
– LA Tech has won 22-straight conference games at home, 23-straight overall and 42 of its last 43 at the Thomas Assembly Center in Ruston.
– WKU concludes its road trip Saturday evening at 5:00 (CT) at Southern Miss in Hattiesburg, Miss. The game will be televised by the Hilltopper Sports Satellite Network, airing nationally on Fox College Sports, regionally on WKU PBS and in Louisville on WBNA. WKU returns home on Thursday, Feb. 5 to play North Texas and will face Rice at E.A. Diddle Arena on Saturday, Feb. 7.
Team Notes
– WKU used the starting lineup of Chris Harrison-Docks, Trency Jackson, T.J. Price, George Fant and Aleksej Rostov for the 13th-straight game and 15th time this season. The group is 12-3 on the year.
– KEY FIRST HALF RUN: With WKU leading 16-13, LA Tech scored 11-straight over 5:32 to take a 24-16 lead. During the stretch, WKU went 1-for-8 from the field and had five turnovers. The run was ended by a Ben Lawson alley-oop from a DJ Clayton feed.
– WKU trailed at the half for the second time in the last 10 games.
– KEY SECOND HALF RUN: WKU went on a 16-2 run to cut it to 49-43 with 9:58 left in the game. The Hilltoppers trailed 41-23 with 16:54 showing on the second-half clock, cutting the deficit by two-thirds in just under seven minutes.
– After trailing by 18, WKU had the game down to as few as six, seven and eight on three sequences in the final 10:00 of the game.
– WKU has made a three-pointer in 860-straight games dating back to March 15, 1987.
Individual Notes
– Senior T.J. Price finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds, playing in his home state of Louisiana.
– The double-double was his second of the season and fourth of his career.
– Price has now had 16 double-digit scoring games this season and 78 in his career.
– Senior George Fant finished with 15 points and four rebounds, snapping his stretch of eight-straight double-doubles.
– The double-double streak was the longest by a Hilltopper since his cousin, Jim McDaniels, had streaks of 14 and 12 in 1970-71.
– Freshman DJ Clayton had 10 points, five rebounds and three assists with no turnovers in 25 minutes off the bench.
– The double-digit point total was his highest since having 15 against Marshall on Jan. 4.
– Sophomore Brandon Price played 17 minutes off the bench.
– The minute total was one shy of his career high.
