Murray State sophomore Jarvis Williams was named the Co-Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week Monday in a vote of the league’s sports information directors. He shared the award with Corey Walden of Eastern Kentucky.

To win his second such weekly honor from the OVC, Williams helped the Racers to a pair of road wins last week at Tennessee Tech (Jan. 8) and Sunday at Jacksonville State.

A senior from Macon, Ga., had a 25-point and 11-rebound effort Sunday and averaged 20.5 points per game for the week on 12-of-20 shots (.600). He also shot 24 free throws in the two games and made 17 for 70 percent. Williams had his fifth double-double of the season with 11 rebounds at JSU. Williams averaged 10 rebounds per game for the week.

The OVC honor is Williams’ second this season. He also won the award Nov. 24. MSU has five total OVC weekly awards this season with Cameron Payne taking the other three on Dec. 8, 15 & 29.

The Racers (13-4, 3-0 OVC) are at home Thursday for their OVC home opener against Belmont. The 8 p.m. tip will be aired on television by ESPNU.
