Hobo McCoy, No. 4 UPIKE Men’s Basketball Handle Carlow 98-49

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Hobo McCoy had a career night, helping fourth-ranked University of Pikeville take down Carlow (Pa.) 98-49 on Saturday inside the East Ky. Expo Center.

McCoy, a senior from Pikeville, tallied a career-high 17 points off the bench, knocking down a career-best five threes while also matching his high of two assists. McCoy, who’s previous high was 15 as a sophomore, was part of a UPIKE (15-1) bench that outscored the Celtics’ 60-11.

It was simply a total domination for the Bears who outshot Carlow 58.7 to 38.5 percent, led the boards 44-17, led in points off turnovers 26-8 and hit a season-high 14 3-pointers as the Celtics could manage just five makes. Add in UPIKE’s 10-of-13 showing from the free-throw line and you get the picture of how one-sided the contest was.

K.K. Simmons added 14 points with four threes and Kenny Manigault matched him with 14 points, five rebounds and three assists. Also reaching double figures was Malik Jacobs with 12 points, shooting 4 for 4 from the field and Jackson Hussey adding 10 points.

Michael Eneh led the game in rebounds with 10 while also scoring eight points and Trey Rakes was the leading distributor with five assists.

Carlow (1-11) had just one player reach double figures scoring in Miles Sunder with 12 points, while three difference Celtics grabbed three rebounds.

The Bears led 17-7 four minutes into the action and pushed the lead to 20 five minutes later on a three from Rakes. Carlow would never get its deficit under 20 points again, instead going down 55-22 at halftime before trailing by as many as 52 points in the second half.

UPIKE, winner of 33 straight games at home, resumes Mid-South Conference play its next time out, hosting Lindsey Wilson at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday.
