BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Eastern Kentucky University junior Denzel Richardson was chosen as the Ohio Valley Conference Co-Newcomer of the Week on Monday, the league announced from its Brentwood, Tennessee headquarters.
Richardson played a huge roll in two Colonel victories. Playing in his hometown of Baltimore, Richardson hit a three-pointer with 0.3 seconds left to give Eastern a 66-63 win over Coppin State on Tuesday.
On Saturday, Richardson tied for a game-high 18 points in a 63-52 victory at home against South Carolina State. He hit a career-best four three-pointers, made all six of his free throw attempts, grabbed four rebounds and had two steals.
In the two games combined, the transfer from Pensacola State College averaged 11.5 points and 5.5 rebounds. He made 40 percent of his shots from the field and shot 46 percent from behind the three-point arc.
The Colonels begin Ohio Valley Conference play on Thursday at Tennessee-Martin. Tip-off against the 8-5 Skyhawks is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET.
