DamirKarapandzic

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — University of Pikeville kicker/punter Damir Karapandzic is the Mid-South Conference Football Special Teams Player of the Week, league officials announced on Monday.

The weekly honor is the first for Karapandzic and the third the Bears have picked up this season. The Danville, Ky., native is the first kicker or punter from UPIKE to earn a weekly award since Kyle Chilton on Oct. 12, 2009.

Karapandzic scored seven points and averaged 41 yards per punt in the Bears’ 39-20 win over Union on Saturday. He tallied 82 yards on his two punts, including booting a long of 44 yards. Karapandzic connected on his only field goal — a 24-yarder — and was 4-for-5 on extra points as UPIKE closed out its season on a three-game winning streak.

Karapandzic finishes the season with 57 points — fourth best among kickers in the MSC. His seven field goals are second in the conference and his 38.3 yards per punt average ranks third in the MSC. Nationally, he is 26th in kickers’ scoring and 28th in punting.
