MOREHEAD, Ky. – Following major improvements to on and off-the-field performances and the program’s best record since 2007, Morehead State Head Football Coach Rob Tenyer has had his contract extended through the 2019 season.
The Eagles finished 7-4 overall and 6-2 in the Pioneer Football League in Tenyer’s third season.
“When Rob agreed to become our head coach three seasons ago, he faced many challenging tasks. However, he began to tackle them immediately and with a very specific and directed plan,” MSU Director of Athletics Brian Hutchinson said. “The progress we’ve made on and off the football field started immediately but really demonstrated that the plan is working in 2015.”
In addition to the best overall and conference marks since 2007, the 2015 team boasted 17 All-PFL selections, including the conference Offensive Player of the Year in quarterback Austin Gahafer.
Winning seven of its last nine games, MSU finished third in the PFL and came within one game of representing the conference in the FCS Playoffs. The Eagles also posted back-to-back shutouts for the first time since 1979. The offense led the league in passing and fewest sacks allowed and ranked fourth in the nation in passing yards, while the defense ranked third in the nation in turnover margin and ninth in interceptions.
“I firmly believe that we are moving quickly toward multiple and consistent Pioneer Football League championships, and we want Coach Tenyer leading our efforts,” Hutchinson said. “Our future is very bright, and I’m excited that Rob wants to continue this important effort.”
