MOREHEAD, Ky. – Junior forward DeJuan Marrero has been named OVC Newcomer of the Week for his performance in the 81-77 loss at Davidson on Wednesday afternoon. In 35 minutes of action, he recorded 12 points and 11 rebounds, while shooting 6-of-10 from the free throw line.
Marrero has now recorded back-to-back double-doubles after recording his first career double-double, with 16 points and 13 rebounds, in the 60-52 win over Western Carolina. His 13 rebounds against WCU are the most by an Eagle this season.
He leads the team with 8.1 rebounds and 3.0 offensive rebounds per game. In seven of 10 games, he has led the Eagles in rebounds. He also leads the Eagles with 10 blocks and is tied for the team-lead with 15 steals. He ranks second on the team with 24.7 minutes per game and third with 8.3 points per game.
The native of Gary, Ind. arrived at Morehead State from Chipola College, where he averaged 14.4 points, 12.2 rebounds and 1.3 blocked shots in his lone season with the Indians.
