LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the sixth game running, senior Janee Thompson scored in double-figures, as her 21 points were enough to power the No. 11/10 Kentucky women’s basketball team past Northern Kentucky 84-65 on Wednesday night at BB&T Arena in Highland Heights, Ky.
Thompson, who has now scored 20-plus points in two games this season, scored 10 points in the first half and 11 in the second, while also adding in three rebounds and seven assists. The Chicago native went 6-of-9 from the floor shooting, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range and making six of her seven attempted free throws.
Kentucky (7-0) trailed NKU by four points at the half, after the Norse (5-2) shot 46 percent from the floor, and went 8-of-15 from 3 to take the lead into the locker room. It was the second time this season that the Wildcats trailed at the half and came back to win in the second half (at Arizona State).
UK outscored Northern Kentucky 47-24 in the second half, including 24-11 in the third period after jumping out to a 52-45 lead early in the third period with a 13-0 run to begin the second half. In the 13-0 run that tipped the game in Kentucky’s favor for good, six different Wildcats scored, including Evelyn Akhator, Thomson, Taylor Murray, Batouly Camara, Maci Morris and Alexis Jennings.
With the win on Wednesday night, Kentucky keeps its perfect record intact, starting the season 7-0 for first time since the 2013-14 season, in which UK advanced to the Elite Eight. The Wildcats will put its perfect record on the line when it faces Louisville at Rupp Arena on Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. ET. The game will be shown live on the SEC Network, ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.

Wednesday was Kentucky’s second true road game of the season, after a 68-64 overtime win over No. 15 Arizona State on Nov. 15. UK is now 2-0 on the road to start the season.
UK trailed by as many as six points in the third period with 9:32 to go, marking its largest deficit faced since trailing by 12 points in Tempe to ASU with 00:28 left in the second period.
