BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball player Nick Mayo has been voted the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week for the third time this season, the league office announced on Monday.
Mayo averaged 14.5 points-per-game and 4.5 rebounds-per-game in two road games at No. 4 Kentucky and Marshall last week.
The forward from Oakland, Maine poured in 20 points and matched a career-high with six rebounds at Marshall on Saturday night. He scored nine points, grabbed three rebounds and came up with a steal at Kentucky on Wednesday at Rupp Arena.
Mayo shot over 50 percent from the field during the week and now ranks fourth in the OVC in field goal percentage (60.0).
He is the first Colonel to be named the OVC Freshman of the Week three times in a season since Adam Leonard in 2006-07.
Mayo and the Colonels return home on Tuesday to host Florida Atlantic at McBrayer Arena at 7:00 p.m.
