WHITE’S FOUR-HIT GAME HELPS EVEN SERIES

Evan White is 7-for-8 in the First Two Games of Series

LEXINGTON, Ky. — All Southeastern Conference first baseman Evan White went 4-for-5 to help pace a 12-8 seven-inning win for the Blue team in the second of the three-game Kentucky baseball Fall World Series, evening the three-game series, on Saturday afternoon at Cliff Hagan Stadium.

A Freshman All-SEC and All-SEC Defensive Team selection in 2015, White went 4-for-5 with a double to lead the Blue squad. Through the first two games in the series, he is 7-for-8.

Blue also got home runs from Joe Dudek and Tyler Marshall. Freshman Tristian Pompey went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a walk, with junior shortstop Connor Heady adding a double and a walk. Newcomers, Luke Becker and Kole Cottam each added a hit, along with senior outfielder Dorian Hairston, who slugged four homers in SEC play in 2015.

Black was paced at the plate by homers from Troy Squires and Gunnar McNeill. Squires had two RBI and was 1-for-3 with a walk. McNeill finished 2-for-3, joining Trey Miller and Josh Smith with two-hit games. Zeke Lewis, Zach Reks, Riley Mahan and Marcus Carson each added hits. Carson and Mahan each had triples, with Carson tripling for the second consecutive game.

Blue starter Zach Logue worked 3.1 innings, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks, striking out three. Lefty Logan Salow (1-0) worked 2.2 innings in relief to earn the win, allowing three runs on three walks and two strikeouts. Senior righty Zach Strecker fired a perfect final inning for the save.

Black starter Dustin Beggs tossed three innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out one. Freshman Sean Hjelle, a 7-foot right-hander, worked two innings with two strikeouts. Freshman lefties Jake Hamilton and Daniel Tillo – the 2015 Iowa Mr. Basketball – each worked an inning in relief, with Tillo tossing a shutout frame.

The series will conclude on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
