MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Junior quarterback Chandler Whittlesey (JR/Columbus, Ga.) and freshman receiver Brad Elkins posted huge games for the Union College football team in a season-ending 51-30 loss at No. 25 Faulkner University on Saturday.
Whittlesey threw for a season-high 314 yards and two touchdowns on 28-of-39 passing and rushed for 99 yards and two more scores on 13 carries. This marks the second game in a row he ran and threw for two touchdowns.
Elkins, meanwhile, hauled in 11 catches for 193 yards, the most by a Bulldog this season. He also scored a touchdown, the first in his college career.
The Bulldogs (1-9 overall) racked up 462 yards in total offense and had the ball for over 40 minutes. However, Union could not overcome Faulkner’s big offensive plays.
Whittlesey hit LaVance Anderson (SR/Bowling Green, Ky.) for a 14-yard score with 3:34 left in the first half, but the Bulldogs found themselves down 24-7 at the half.
Union scored 23 points in the second half, including 14 in the fourth. Whittlesey scored on runs of 7 and 8 yards and hit Elkins for a 47-yard touchdown pass. The Bulldogs remaining two points came when Curtis Yates (JR/Lexington, Ky.) blocked a Faulkner PAT and returned it for a defensive extra point.
Anderson finished the game with 51 rushing yards to give him 825 on the season, which ranks 12th most in program history. He also ends his career with 1,469 rushing yards to finish ninth all-time.
Faulkner finishes up at 7-3.
