EKU TO HOST THREE TEAMS FOR @EKUHOOPS CLASSIC

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team will host the 2015 @EKUHoops Classic this weekend at McBrayer Arena.

– The six-game, three-day event will feature the Colonels, along with the Ball State Cardinals, the Longwood Lancers and the South Carolina State Bulldogs.

– Eastern Kentucky (1-1, 0-0 OVC) will face Ball State in Friday’s opening game. The Colonels are coming off a 78-59 loss at UNC Wilmington on Monday.



– Senior Jarelle Reischel recorded his first double-double as a Colonel at UNCW, scoring 17 points and grabbing a career-high 13 rebounds. The transfer from Rhode Island leads the Colonels in scoring (19.0 points-per-game) and rebounding (8.0 rebounds-per-game) this season.

– Ball State (1-1, 0-0 MAC) travels to Richmond coming off a 73-56 win over OVC team Eastern Illinois on Monday. The Cardinals are averaging 63.0 points-per-game while holding their opponents to 55.0 points-per-game.

– Bo Calhoun’s 12.5 points-per-game and 10.5 rebounds-per-game lead the Cardinals through two games.

– EKU is 6-0 all-time versus Ball State. The last meeting between the two teams took place on December 13, 2008 in Muncie. The Colonels defeated the Cardinals, 71-58.

– Longwood (2-0, 0-0 Big South) has outscored its opponents 158-144 in just two contests this season. The Lancers are +22 in scoring margin while +9.5 in rebounding margin. Kanayo Obi-Rapu’s 24.5 points-per-game paces the Lancers, along with Khris Lane’s double-double average. Lane averages 11.0 points-per-game and 14.5 rebounds-per-game this season.

– EKU is 2-0 all-time versus Longwood. The last meeting between the two teams took place on December 7, 2013 in Farmville, Virginia. The Colonels beat the Lancers, 76-67. Junior Isaac McGlone is the only current Colonel who played in that win. He dropped two assists and came up with a steal.

– South Carolina State (0-1, 0-0 MEAC) dropped its season opener against the College of Charleston. Greg Mortimer and Gabriel McCary finished in double-digit scoring for the Bulldogs in the lone game of the season. Mortimer’s 13 points led S.C. State, while McCary added 12 points.

– EKU is 3-1 all-time versus South Carolina State. The two teams last met on January 3, 2015 in Richmond. The Colonels beat the Bulldogs, 63-52. McGlone had nine points, four rebounds and four assists in that win.

– South Carolina State head coach Murray Garvin is a 1998 graduate of EKU and a native of Pikeville, Kentucky.

UP NEXT

Following this weekend’s tournament, EKU will host Thomas More College on Wednesday, November 25 at McBrayer Arena. There will be a food drive held at Alumni Coliseum during that game. Fans can get in free with donation of a non-perishable food item.
