BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – A day after churning out his first career 100-yard rushing game, Eastern Kentucky University freshman running back Ethan Thomas was chosen as the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, the league announced from its Brentwood, Tennessee headquarters.
Thomas ran for 149 yards on 18 carries as No. 13 EKU beat Tennessee State 45-21 on Homecoming. He averaged 8.3 yards per carry while also catching three passes for 27 yards.
The Johnson City, Tennessee native scored a touchdown on an 80-yard run up the middle late in the second quarter. It was his fourth rushing touchdown of the season.
The 80-yard run was the longest offensive play for the Colonels since an 84-yard pass by T.J. Pryor on Oct. 13, 2012. It was the longest rushing play since Bobby Washington ran for a 99-yard touchdown on Oct. 27, 2007 at Murray State.
The Colonels travel to Jacksonville State next Saturday to face the No. 1-ranked Gamecocks. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m ET.
