It took overtime to determine the winner between arch rivals Pikeville and Paintsville Friday night.
Kentucky signee Kash Daniel put the put the Tigers ahead 7-0 when he connected with junior Darren Morris on a five yard touchdown pass.
After a big kickoff return from Pikeville’s Chatlin Jarrell, the Panthers had good field position with the ball at the Tigers 23 yard line. Pikeville scored quick, junior quarterback Cody Dials ran a sneak up the middle to give the Panthers a first and goal inside the five yard line. Daric Pugh finished the drive for Pikeville scoring his 1st touchdown of the game when he plunged into the end zone from the one yard line.
The score remained tied at 7 until the 11:55 mark in the fourth quarter. Daric Pugh scored his second touchdown on a five yard run, and Pikeville converted the two point conversion to take a 15-7 lead.
Paintsville quickly capitalized when Kash Daniel connected on a 38 yard touchdown pass. The Tigers converted the two point conversion to tie the game 15-15 with 1:49 left in the fourth quarter.
In overtime Pikeville scored on three plays and connected on the point after to take a 22-15 lead. Kash Daniel was determined to win this game for Paintsville. He scored on the Paintsville’s second play from five yards out and ran in the two point conversion to give Paintsville a 23-22 win over the Panther.
Pikeville falls to 2-1 on the season and will host Sheldon Clark this Friday. Paintsville remains perfect with a 3-0 record and will host Ridgeview, Va. Friday night.
