Once again the Phelps Hornets find themselves with a new head coach (their 3rd in 5 years), but this time around they have a long tenured coach taking over the helm in James “Butch” Joplin. Joplin has been a long time assistant at both the high school & college levels and has actually coached at Phelps before as well. Back in 1984, Joplin led Phelps to an undefeated regular season as head coach.
For the past few seasons Phelps hasn’t even had a home field to play on, very limited home games on their schedule they played those games at the old Belfry home place Vipperman Stadium. That is expected to change this year as they the new athletic complex is scheduled to be completed before their 1st home game.
Phelps will travel to Allen Central to battle the Rebels on Friday, August 21st 2015.
