Ty’Quan Bitting, a 6-foot-9 post player with two years of college experience, has signed an athletic scholarship agreement with the Morehead State men’s basketball program. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining and will be able to play immediately.
“We are looking forward to working with Ty’Quan,” Head Coach Sean Woods said. “He is a high-character individual and comes from a winning environment. Ty’Quan has a lot of ability on both ends of the floor. He’s long, athletic and will add depth to our inside game.”
As a sophomore at Angelina (Texas) in 2014-15, Bitting averaged 11.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists while shooting 57 percent from the field. He helped the National Junior College Athletic Association Roadrunners to a 21-10 record, which was their best in nine seasons.
Bitting posted four double-doubles and registered eight double-figure rebounding efforts at Angelina en route to earning Honorable Mention All-Conference accolades.
Bitting started his college career at Charleston Southern in 2013-14. He averaged 3.3 points and 2.0 rebounds in 23 contests for the Big South Conference Buccaneers.
A native of Winston-Salem, N.C., Bitting averaged 13.0 points, 10.3 rebounds and 6.8 blocks as a senior at Mount Tabor High School. He helped the Spartans to a berth in the 2013 North Carolina High School Athletic Association 4A Final Four. Following the season, Bitting was selected to play in the North Carolina/South Carolina All-Star Classic and North Carolina East/West All-Star Game.
“Ty’Quan will provide flexibility at the power forward and center positions,” Woods added. “He will give us a defensive presence in the paint. Ty’Quan also has the ability to score in a variety of ways. He was very successful in high school and already has one year of Division I experience.”
Bitting is the seventh player to sign with Morehead State men’s basketball for the upcoming school year. The Eagles have finished Ohio Valley Conference play .500-or-better in eight consecutive seasons. MSU has also advanced to the league tournament semifinals in six of the last seven years.
