LEXINGTON, Ky. — Trevor Gott – Kentucky’s career and single-season record holder in saves – has been called up to the MLB’s Los Angeles Angels and is poised to make his big-league debut.
A product of Lexington’s Tates Creek High School, Gott has earned his first career big-league call-up, with the Angels hosting the Oakland Athletics on Saturday night. Gott has pitched in 25 minor-league games for the Angels in 2015, with 25 appearances in double-A and seven scoreless outings to open his triple-A career. Overall in 2015, Gott has a 1-0 record and a 2.25 ERA with eight saves, striking out 30 and walking 12 in 28 innings.
When he takes the mound, Gott will become the 30th former Kentucky player to play in the big leagues, including the fifth former UK star to earn MLB service time in 2015, including Andrew Albers (Blue Jays), Joe Blanton (Royals), Collin Cowgill (Angels) and Chris Rusin (Rockies). Gott joins fellow UK legend and Lexington high school product Cowgill, an All-American centerfielder for the Wildcats in 2008, on the Angels roster.

A native of Lexington, Ky., Gott finished his UK career in 2013 as the career and single-season record holder for saves. A 6-foot 190-pounder, Gott totaled a UK career record with 23 saves, breaking the UK single-season mark with nine saves in 2012 and then shattering it as a junior with 12.
In his three-year UK career, Gott appeared in 69 games with a 9-5 record and a 2.30 ERA, striking out 107 in 82.1 innings. During Gott’s three-year career, the quick-armed righty led a UK bullpen that owned an 89-1 record when holding an eighth-inning lead, including winning 88 consecutive games when leading after the eighth.
As a junior in 2013, Gott went 4-1 with a 1.20 ERA, saving a program-record 12 games in 30 innings, walking five and striking out 35. Gott led a UK bullpen that set a UK record with a 2.29 ERA, with the bullpen owning a 14-3 record and surrendering just one steal and 50 walks in 172.2 innings. Following the season, Gott was a sixth-round pick of the San Diego Padres in the MLB Draft, before the Angels acquired him in a trade in 2014.
In 2012 for the Wildcats, Gott went 3-0 with a 2.16 ERA in 23 games, saving nine games with 38 strikeouts in 25 innings. During his freshman season, after winning Gatorade High School Player of the Year honors at Tates Creek, Gott appeared in 23 games with two saves, striking out 34 in 27.1 innings.
The Angels host the Oakland Athletics on Saturday at 10:05 p.m. ET. Angels southpaw C.J. Wilson gets the ball to start against former Mississippi State star Kendall Graveman.
