Murray State Gets 20th Straight Win

The Murray State Racers pushed their win streak to 20 Thursday with a 78-46 win over the SIUE Cougars at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky.

The Racers improved to 22-4 and 12-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference while extending the nation’s second-longest win streak.

Cameron Payne led the Racers with 20 points and six assists, while Jeffery Moss added 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting. Jonathan Fairell had his fourth double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. T.J. Sapp had 10 rebounds and Jarvis Williams had six blocked shots as each recorded career-highs.

The Racers started the game in fine fashion in jumping to a 24-10 lead at the 6:38 mark of the half. MSU finished the half on a 10-2 run to lead 40-16 at intermission.

In the second half, MSU led 66-32 with 9:34 remaining.

MSU was 29-of-52 from the field for 56 percent and they limited SIUE to 27 percent on 15-of-56 shots.

The Racers travel to the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo., for a game against the Southeast Missouri Redhawks. The 6 p.m. tip is the second of the season between the two. MSU won the first at home (Feb. 5) 82-72.

Game Notes

MSU held SIUE to 46 points, the second lowest points for an opponent this season. MSU held Alabama A&M to 39 on Dec. 30.

Jarvis Williams had a career-high with six blocked shots. MSU had a season-high with nine topping the seven they had vs Alabama A&M on Dec. 30.

The Racers dominated the boards and won the rebound stat for the ninth time in the last 10 games (43-31) and are 17-0 this season when taking the rebound total.

Coach Prohm has 97 wins at MSU and is far ahead of the curve to become the fasted MSU coach to reach 100 wins. Prohm is 97-27 (.782) overall and 50-10 (.833) in OVC games.

Williams had eight points and now has 908 points as he pushes forward to a career 1,000. Moss had 16 points and has 861. Cameron Payne’s 20 point game means he has 1,076 at MSU.

The Racers extended their home win streak in the CFSB Center to 12 games since their season opening loss to Houston (Nov. 14). MSU has only two home games remaining this season.
