Team Records, Game Notables and Series Information
– WKU won its fifth-straight game and its ninth out of its last 11 to improve to 10-5 and stayed perfect in Conference USA action with a 3-0 record. Old Dominion’s 10-game winning was snapped as they fell to 13-2 and 2-1 in league play.
– The Hilltoppers’ victory over the No. 25 Monarchs marked their first victory over a ranked opponent since knocking off No. 24 Vanderbilt on Dec. 11, 2009.
– The win was WKU’s first against a ranked team in Diddle Arena since defeating No. 18 UAB 81-75 on Jan. 25, 1986.
– WKU now leads the all-time series with Old Dominion 16-12 and has won five of the last six meetings.
– The Hilltoppers have now begun conference play with a 3-0 record for the second time in the past three seasons.
– WKU hits the road next week for two Conference USA games, beginning Thursday night at 6:00 (CT) at Florida Atlantic. The road trip concludes with a Saturday game at FIU at 5:00 PM (CT).
Team Notes
– WKU used the starting lineup of Chris Harrison-Docks, Trency Jackson, T.J. Price, George Fant and Aleksej Rostov for the eighth-straight game and 10th time this season. The group is 8-2 on the year.
– The Hilltoppers only turned the ball over seven times and have now won eight-straight games dating back to Feb. 15, 2014, when having fewer turnovers than their opponent. The team had one turnover in the second half of the contest following a great second-half performance in the previous game against Charlotte where the Hilltoppers had zero.
– KEY FIRST HALF RUN: ODU opened its lead up to five points at 25-20 with 6:47 remaining in the frame, but WKU responded with a 16-4 spurt over the final 6:23 to take a 36-29 lead into halftime. George Fant scored eight points and had four rebounds during the key stretch.
– KEY SECOND HALF RUN: The Hilltoppers used an 8-1 run over 3:43 in the middle of the half to stretch its lead to 53-41, its largest advantage of the game. The run was sparked by three-pointers from T.J. Price and Trency Jackson. ODU never came closer than four points after the run.
– WKU went 24-of-31 at the free throw line, good for a 77.4 percent clip. It is the best free-throw percentage for the Hilltoppers since the Ole Miss game where the team hit 26-of-32 for 81.3 percent. It is the third-best percentage from the charity stripe this season.
– WKU has made a three-pointer in 855-straight games dating back to March 15, 1987.
Individual Notes
– Senior forward George Fant poured in a season-high 24 points and snagged 13 boards for his fourth-straight double-double.
– Fant scored 20 points and hauled down 10 rebounds in the first half alone.
– Fant’s streak of four-straight double-doubles is the longest of his career and marks just the second streak of consecutive double-doubles in his standout career.
– Fant has four double-doubles in his last four games after recording 11 in 108 career games prior to the recent streak.
– Fant has scored 56 points and grabbed 36 rebounds in three C-USA games this season.
– Fant’s double-double was his fifth of the season and 15th of his career.
– With his 24-point effort, Fant moves up from 18th to 16th in WKU’s career scoring list with 1,369 points, surpassing Charlie Osborne (1,359) and Craig McCormick (1,354).
– Senior guard T.J. Price scored 15 points for his 12th double-digit effort of the year.
– Price became WKU’s career record hold in three-pointers (248) with his triple with 12:32 left in the second half. Price broke Anthony Winchester’s (2003-06) record of 247 in 15 fewer games than it took Winchester to establish the former record.
– Redshirt sophomore guard Chris Harrison-Docks connected on 5-of-9 field goals for 19 points.
– Harrison-Docks has dished out 21 assists in the last four games.
– Harrison-Docks has hit multiple three-pointers in 27 of his 39 career games for WKU and 12 of 15 this season.
