PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Moving one step closer to reclaiming its top ranking, the University of Pikeville men’s basketball team comes in at No. 2 in the NAIA Coaches’ Top-25 Poll released on Tuesday afternoon.
Campbellsville, last week’s top-ranked team, lost two games at then-No. 17 Georgetown and Shawnee State (Ohio) to make way for Cal State San Marcos to take over at No. 1 and the Bears to slide up to No. 2.
With last week’s two losses, the Tigers fell to No. 6, while the Mid-South Conference’s Georgetown is up to No. 14 and Cumberlands is No. 23.
Three teams picked up first-place votes in the poll, led by Cal State San Marcos with five, UPIKE with two and Hope International (Calif.) picking up three of the top nods.
The Bears are currently tied with Talladega (Ala.) for the nation’s longest winning streak at 14 games and have been ranked in the top five of all six polls released this season. In fact, UPIKE has been among the top-five teams ranked 18 straight polls dating back to the first regular-season rankings of 2013-14.
Up next for UPIKE is a trip to Lebanon, Tenn., to face Cumberland at 9 p.m. ET on Thursday.
