Lexington, KY–Reports are surfacing that West Virginia’s Shannon Dawson is expected to accept the offensive coordinator position at Kentucky. Dawson, a Hal Mumme descendant, whose offense will be even faster than Neal Brown’s. Dawson runs an Air Raid offense that will have the Wildcats running at lightning speed.
Dawson describes his offense as “fast, fast, and fast.” While at WVU, Dawson’s offense ranked 9th in passing , 38th in scoring, and 11th in total offense. In his previous years at Stephen F. Austin, Dawson’s offense ranked No. 1 in passing offense and No. 4 scoring offense in his third and final year. When Dawson took over the at Stephen F. Austin in 2008, they were coming off a winless season averaging 16 points per game. Dawson quickly changed that into the top passing offense in the Southland Conference and third-best in the country in his first season.
Dawson will go on to coach the Mountaineers in the Liberty Bowl against the Aggies of Texas A&M. This is a very impressive hire for the Wildcats. The Air Raid offense will bring more passing than Neal Brown’s offense and will hopefully lead to more points scored and a more up tempo offense.
