MOREHEAD, Ky. — Sean Woods, who is in his third season as the head men’s basketball coach at Morehead State, will be included in an ESPN 30 for 30 documentary on Selection Sunday in March. Woods played at Kentucky from 1989-92 and has been coaching at the collegiate level since 2003.

ESPN’s documentary is titled “‘I Hate Christian Laettner” and features the former Duke star. Laettner hit one of the most memorable shots in NCAA Tournament history, helped the Blue Devils to two NCAA national championships and played 13 seasons in the National Basketball Association.

Duke posted a 104-103 overtime win over Kentucky in the Elite Eight of the 1992 NCAA Tournament. Woods gave UK a one-point edge on a runner with 2.1 seconds to play. The Blue Devils answered with Grant Hill’s 75-foot pass to Laettner, who drilled a turnaround jumper as time expired.

Woods knocked down 9-of-15 from the field en route to 21 points and a game-best nine assists for the sixth-ranked Wildcats. Laettner connected on all 10 field-goal attempts and all 10 free-throw tosses on his way to a game-high 31 points and seven rebounds for the top-ranked Blue Devils.

The game, which was played before a sellout crowd at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, continues to be regarded as one of the greatest ever. It featured several individuals who went on to play professionally, plus Hall of Fame coaches Rick Pitino (Kentucky) and Mike Krzyzewski (Duke).

Woods, known as one of the “Unforgettables,” played in 91 games at Kentucky. He was coached by Pitino, Tubby Smith and Billy Donovan, who have all won national titles as head coaches. Woods, whose #11 jersey hangs in Rupp Arena, was later inducted into the UK Athletic Hall of Fame.

A starting point guard, Woods played on nationally-ranked teams his final three seasons. He helped the Wildcats to a Southeastern Conference Tournament championship his senior year. He still ranks first in Kentucky history for career assists (5.30) and career steals (1.58) per game.

Woods has been associated with six Division I men’s basketball programs. The 2014-15 season is his seventh as a D-I head coach and 12th at the collegiate level. He spent an hour with ESPN representatives on Oct. 15. His segments were taped inside the MSU basketball locker room.
