RICHMOND, Ky. – Former Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball player, and 2014 Denny’s Slam Dunk Champion, Marcus Lewis is on the training camp roster for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the NBA Development League, the team announced on Saturday.

Lewis is one of 17 players on the training camp roster. The 6-foot-4 guard earned the spot on the training camp roster after participating in an open tryout.

Fort Wayne’s 2014-15 season begins on Nov. 15 against the Sioux Falls Skyforce. The Mad Ants won the 2014 NBA Development League Championship last season.

Lewis left Colonel fans in awe with his spectacular dunks during his two seasons in maroon and white. His alley-oop dunk at Southeast Missouri in 2013 climbed to No. 3 on ESPN’s SportsCenter Top-10 Plays and was a finalist for GEICO Play of the Year.

In March, Lewis won the “State Farm Dark Horse Dunker” Facebook competition, a 16-player bracket-style elimination competition. That guaranteed the Streamwood, Illinois native a spot in the Denny’s Slam Dunk Championship at the 2014 Final Four. One of eight participants, Lewis defeated Cory Jefferson of Baylor in the finals. He was third on the team in 2013-14 with an average of 9.8 points per game.

The Colonels will host Urbana University for an exhibition game on Friday before kicking off the regular season against Savannah State one week later on Nov. 14 at McBrayer Arena. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

The NBA Development League, founded in 2001, is the NBA’s official minor league. Featuring 18 teams with direct affiliations to NBA franchises, the NBA D-League is a proven developer of talent: an all-time high 26 percent of players in the NBA at the start of the 2014-15 season boasted NBA D-League experience, and the league continues to develop coaches, referees, and front-office staff for the NBA and its teams.
