EKU FOOTBALL’S DY¹SHAWN MOBLEY HONORED AS OVC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Eastern Kentucky University running back Dy’Shawn Mobley was named the Ohio Valley Conference Football Offensive Player of the Year the league announced Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, five other Colonels earned All-OVC accolades.

Mobley is the first EKU running back since Markus Thomas in 1992 to be honored as OVC Offensive Player of the Year.

The native of Powell, Tennessee averaged 135 rushing yards per game and scored 18 rushing touchdowns against league opponents. Mobley currently ranks 11th nationally (FCS) with 1,395 rushing yards. The junior set a program record and equaled an OVC mark when he scored six touchdowns in the win over Murray State on Nov. 15. Mobley scored three touchdowns against three other conference teams – UT Martin on Sept. 20, Southeast Missouri on Oct. 25 and Tennessee State on Nov. 1.

A finalist for the Walter Payton Award, Mobley has produced a league-high eight 100-yard rushing games. He also ranks third on the team with 30 receptions. Mobley’s 19 rushing touchdowns are the third-most in OVC single-season history, his 120 points are the fifth-most and he needs just 148 rushing yards to move into 10th place in league history.

Junior offensive tackle Brett Eyckmans was the only other Colonel to come away with All-OVC first team accolades. Eyckmans, hailing from Lexington, Kentucky, has been a fixture on the offensive line, starting 30 straight games dating back to 2012.

Four Eastern Kentucky players were tabbed to the All-OVC second team –senior linebacker Tyrelle Johnson, senior kicker Andrew Lloyd, junior offensive guard Trey Shelton and senior defensive back Brandon Stanley. Stanley also earned all-league honors two years ago.

No. 16 Eastern Kentucky (9-3) opens action in the NCAA FCS playoffs this Saturday with a home game against No. 21 Indiana State. ESPN3 is broadcasting the game beginning at 1 p.m.

The winner of the EKU-Indiana State game will travel to No. 8 seed Chattanooga on Dec. 6.
