PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The annual Basketball Blast-Off hosted by the University of Pikeville is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday at the UPIKE Gym.
It’s the first chance for the UPIKE community to come out and see the men’s and women’s basketball teams, as well as performances from cheer, dance and the pep band.
The event, emceed by UPIKE Vice President for Enrollment Management Gary Justice, will also feature giveaways including t-shirts, sunglasses and tickets, as well as some on-court games with participants from the crowd.
Both basketball teams will be introduced and split up for two 20-minute scrimmages, followed by a dunk contest and 3-point shootout.
Men’s basketball coach Kelly Wells and women’s basketball’s Joanna McNamee are excited to get things rolling as the Blast-Off is the starting point for what they both hope is a successful season.
The men will play their first regular-season game on Oct. 27 against Grace Bible at the East Ky. Expo Center, while the women travel to West Virginia Tech on Oct. 30 in Montgomery, W. Va.
