PIKEVILLE, Ky. — The University of Pikeville women’s basketball team was picked to finish seventh in the Mid-South Conference standings, according to a preseason poll of the league’s head coaches released by conference officials on Friday.
UPIKE is entering its second season with head coach Joanna McNamee who led it to a 14-18 overall record in 2013-14, including an appearance in the semifinals of the MSC Championship. The Bears were one win away from earning a trip to the NAIA National Championship and finished with a 7-11 mark in league play.
Campbellsville is the pick to win the MSC after collecting the regular-season title last season and advancing to the quarterfinals of the NAIA National Championship. The Tigers received 48 voting points in the poll and collected six of the eight-first place votes, coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.
Lindsey Wilson is second with 40 points and the other two first-place votes, while Georgetown is third in the poll with 37 points.
The Bears welcome 10 new faces to its roster for 2014-15, but return four players who spent time in the starting lineup in Khalilah Quigley, Kelah Eldridge, Kandice Porter and Courtney Haney. Still, UPIKE will have to replace over 75 percent of its average 76.8 points as Quigley at 12.0 points per game is its leading returning scorer.
The 2014-15 season tips off at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday, Oct. 30 at West Virginia Tech in Montgomery, W. Va.
