For the first time in school history, the Letcher County Central Middle School Football team is fulfilling their expectations. This Saturday, the LCC Middle School Football team will play in Lexington in the Final Four of the Middle School State Football Tournament.
But what is more impressive about this team, is they are playing for something bigger. Last year, one of their football coaches, Coach Owen Gibson, passed away unexpectedly with a heart attack. It was a huge setback for the kids, as well as the whole community in the small town of Whitesburg, KY.
Now these kids are playing something bigger, not only are they aiming for a state championship, but they also playing for their former coach. Wherever LCC plays, they always take a picture of Coach Owens with them on the bus and on the sideline.
Letcher Central plays this Saturday at Lexington Catholic at 4:30 p.m. in the semi-finals, Championship on Sunday.
