PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — Lauren Vice won the first tournament of her collegiate career, helping the University of Pikeville women’s golf team wrap up its third win of the fall, controlling the UPIKE Fall Invitational with a team score of 671 (332-339) on Tuesday at StoneCrest Golf Course.
Vice took the individual title with a two-round total of 163 (84-79) as the Bears topped Georgetown in second with a 750 (380-370) and St. Catharine in third with an 805 (410-395).
Vice led a pack of six UPIKE golfers at the top of the leaderboard as Georgetown’s Sydney Swingo was the first non-Bear listed in seventh place. Backing up Vice was Lauren Gregory in second, carding a 166 (83-83), Ashley Veach finishing third with a 167 (85-82) and Ayla Rhinesmith tallying fourth place with a score of 171 (83-88).
Gregory’s score did not count toward the team total as she put together her impressive round while playing as one of four individuals in the field, along with her teammate Laken McKinney who fired a 186 (96-90).
UPIKE’s Brittany Brophy and Christen Cropper earned the last two-spots on the all-tournament team after tying for fifth place with two-round totals of 173.
Brophy had the best performance of the tournament on par-five holes, finishing one-under par, while Cropper tallied the most birdies in the field with four. Vice’s 17 pars were the most in the tournament, leading to her consistent comeback for the individual title.
UPIKE is back on the course on Oct. 13-14 at the Mid-South Conference Fall Tournament in Bardstown, Ky., at the Maywood Country Club for the final event of the fall season.
