SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – Senior Patric Sundlof finished tied for first at the Cardinal Intercollegiate and the Eastern Kentucky University men’s golf team tied for sixth overall at the two-day event that concluded on Tuesday.
Sundlof opened play on Monday with a 4-under round of 68 and then shot an even-par 72 during the second round. He concluded play on Tuesday with a 1-under 71 for a three-round total of 211, five shots under par. He finished tied with Greg Smail of Louisiana-Monroe.
Sundlof is in his second season at EKU. His previous best finish as a Colonel came at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate in March where he placed second.
Eastern led the field after a first round 290. The Colonels dropped to fourth after a second round score of 295. The team concluded play with a 300 on Tuesday for a 54-hole total of 885, 21 shots over par.
The 16-team event was contested at the par-72, 7,100-yard University of Louisville Golf Club.
Louisville (870) captured the team title by one shot over Louisiana-Monroe (871). Cincinnati (877) was third and Austin Peay (879) was fourth. Tennessee-Martin (882) finished three shots in front of EKU and Western Kentucky (885).
Freshman Jared Brown tied for 15th with a three-round total of 220. She shot a 3-under 69 during the second round. Taylor Riggs (225) tied for 34th.
Eastern Kentucky will play again on Monday and Tuesday at the Bearcat Invitational hosted by Cincinnati at the Traditions Golf Club in Hebron, Kentucky.
