PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Coming off its best season in eight years with a 7-4 record, the University of Pikeville football team is ready to open the 2014 season with a trip to Mid-South Conference East Division foe Bluefield (Va.) at 6:30 p.m. ET on Thursday.
The Rams will be providing a live stream of the action at Mitchell Stadium, while Z107.5 FM of East Kentucky Broadcasting will have the call locally with Joe Kinzer and Pedro Ledger on the call. Streaming audio is available from Z107.5 FM on its web site.
UPIKE leads the all-time series with Bluefield 2-0, including a 56-13 romp last season in Pikeville. After going 0-11 last season, Ram head coach Ordell Walker is back with his top three returning rushers and receivers, along with over 60 newcomers to blend in. Sophomore Ashten Dixon, who played in seven games last season, won the starting quarterback spot this week.
For the Bears, it will be freshman Hasani Warren getting the nod at quarterback. The newcomer led Belfry High School to three straight appearances in the Kentucky High School Championship Game and will now get to put his mark on the offense at UPIKE. This will also be the first game as head coach for Allan Holland Jr., who took over in early August.
