PRESTONSBURG, Ky. – The StoneCrest Golf Course was no match for the University of Pikeville men’s golf team on Monday and Tuesday as the Bears shot a program-record 578 strokes (289-289) to win the Alice Lloyd Invitational.
While all the UPIKE golfers were on fire, it was Casey Castle who stood out, winning the individual title with a six-under par 138 (69-69) over the two days. Making the Bears even harder to beat was Will Boyd following him up with a three-under 141 (72-69) to finish second overall.
Tyler Smith was third on the leaderboard and the team with a 147 (72-75) and Drew Rothenstine chipped in by carding a 159 (76-78). Borgess Clark shot just outside the top four with a 161 (85-76) to round out the UPIKE scores.
Finishing second at the event was West Virginia Tech at 656 strokes (337-319), Alice Lloyd was third with a 676 (343-331) and Hiwassee took fourth with a 680 (335-345).
The Bears return to the course on Sept. 8-9 in the Georgetown College Fall Classic at Cherry Blossom Golf & Country Club.
