PRESTONSBURG, Ky. – Sixty strokes separated the University of Pikeville women’s golf team and Midway in what amounted to a head-to-head competition at the Alice Lloyd Invitational on Tuesday at StoneCrest Golf Course.
Led by Brittany Brophy carding a two-day total of 159 strokes (84-75), the Bears cruised to a win in their first tournament of the season with a team score of 655 (334-321). Ashley Veach backed her up with a 165 (80-85) and Lauren Vice finished third with a 167 (85-82).
Pikeville’s fourth best finish came from a player just outside of the lineup as Lauren Gregory carded a 168 (79-89) while playing as an individual. Midway tallied 715 total strokes (366-349) as Katheryn Lawler and Chelsea Schack both posted scores of 172 to lead the way.
UPIKE is back in action on Sept. 8-9 in the Georgetown College Fall Classic at the Cherry Blossom Golf and Country Club.
