MOREHEAD, Ky. — Chad Donley, a 6-foot-2 guard who has spent the past two seasons at Big South Conference member Liberty, is set to join the Morehead State men’s basketball program this fall. He has one year of college eligibility remaining.
Liberty captured the 2013 Big South Tournament title and played in the NCAA Tournament. Donley averaged 2.8 points as a sophomore in 2012-13 and 1.4 points as a junior in 2013-14. He drilled 31 percent from three-point range both seasons.
Donley spent the 2011-12 season at Northwest Florida State College. He averaged 6.9 points and shot 41 percent from long distance, while helping the Raiders to a 32-2 overall record and National Junior College Athletic Association runner-up finish.
“Chad will be a nice addition for the 2014-15 season, and our staff is looking forward to working with him,” Head Coach Sean Woods said. “Chad has already been on some successful college teams and wants to be part of a special year at Morehead State.”
Donley, who earned four varsity letters at Baker School (Fla.), averaged 22 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals his final prep campaign. He earned four all-area awards, including a pair of first-team honors, and led the Gators to two district crowns.
“Chad has the potential to give us depth at the guard position,” Woods said. “He’s a specialty player who can consistently knock down shots. He has the ability to give us offense off the bench, which is important for the overall success of our team.”
Morehead State is coming off a 20-win campaign for the fourth time in the past six years. The Eagles also earned a spot in the 2014 College Basketball Invitational, which marked their fourth postseason berth in six seasons and ninth in school history.
