MOREHEAD, Ky. — Dylan Howard, who begins his third season as the associate head men’s basketball coach at Morehead State, has been invited to the NCAA’s Achieving Coaching Excellence (ACE) Forum. The three-day event is set for June 12-14 in Indianapolis.

The program, which is sponsored by the Black Coaches Association (BCA), honors some of the top minority assistant basketball coaches in the country. Participants are slated to interact with university presidents, directors of athletics, conference commissioners and search firms.

“We are glad Dylan is representing Morehead State in this prestigious program,” Head Coach Sean Woods said. “Dylan is an outstanding coach and even better person. He is a veteran of the college game who brings a lot of hard work, professionalism and maturity to our program.”

The forum is an educational setting where individuals will simulate the intercollegiate interview process from researching the position to their first staff meeting as a head coach. Candidates were selected based on recommendations from administrators and sitting head coaches.

“I’m honored and humbled to be selected for this prestigious program,” Howard said. “I’m looking forward to the three-day forum in Indianapolis. It should be a lot of fun to interact with the organizers of this event and some of the top minority assistant coaches in college basketball.”

Several participants have gone on to run Division I men’s programs. The alumni list features current head coaches Murray Garvin (South Carolina State), Kareem Richardson (UMKC), Joseph Price (Grambling), Dedrique Taylor (Cal State Fullerton) and Jayson Gee (Longwood).

“We are very fortunate to have Dylan on our staff,” Woods said. “Dylan is a trustworthy right-hand man who knows me inside and out. He has spent time as a collegiate head coach, which means he has a good feel for what I go through on a daily and weekly basis.”

Howard helped Morehead State to a 20-14 overall record and 10-6 Ohio Valley Conference mark in 2013-14. The Eagles, who participated in the College Basketball Invitational, have played in the postseason four of the past six years. MSU has also won 20 games in four of the past six seasons.

“I’m looking forward to meeting with Division I athletic directors and hearing from head coaches who have achieved at a high level,” Howard added. “I’m very happy with my current position at Morehead State, but one of my long-term career goals has always been to run a Division I program.”
